Flattering50 Giveaway: Jewelry from Boyer New York

Editor's Note: This Giveaway has ended. Thanks to all you who participated!

What better way to celebrate fall than with a new piece of jewelry? Lisa Harris, design director and brand enthusiast at Boyer New York, would like to let one Flattering50 reader select one or more unique pieces of costume jewelry (total value up to $150) from her collection. For example, I'm wearing a Turquoise Glass Necklace ($140) from the collection. Scroll down to learn more about Lisa, Boyer New York, and how you can enter for a chance to win costume jewelry of your choice.

DESIGNING WOMAN
Boyer New York has been specializing in unique costume jewelry--necklaces, bracelets, clip-on earrings and bridal pieces--since the 1970s. Five years ago, after moving her family to New York, Lisa Harris took over the company when the owner retired. "I jumped in head first," she says.

Lisa's previous experience includes earning a BFA in Interior Design, and running a graphic design/marketing communications firm with my husband while raising a family. "In the past, I took jewelry design classes for fun and loved them. My Mom had a business selling costume jewelry, too. I think the love I have for jewelry is in my blood."

Today, Lisa designs most of the pieces for Boyer New York. "There are a few pieces, some clip earring styles, for example, that are legacy styles from the collection before I took over," she says. "Boyer New York is known for its line of high-quality plated clip earrings."

When asked to describe the jewelry collection, Lisa says it's "a mixture of classic styles and statement pieces, with a bold look." She adds, "I'm not a big fan of dainty costume jewelry. If you're going to wear costume jewelry, let everyone see it!"

JEWELRY FOR OVER 50 WOMEN
According to Lisa, the jewelry is made with the over 50 woman in mind. For example, the bolder necklace designs tend to "hide trouble spots on the neck," she says. Many of the necklaces come with magnet clasps, "making them easy to put on and take off."  In addition, the clip-on earrings are designed to "cover up earlobes and beautifully frame a woman's face."

I noticed that many of the pieces in the Boyer collection feature faux pearls. "I do a lot of designing with pearls," says Lisa, "because they are so versatile. They can be worn with jeans or a Little Black Dress."

Lisa sent me a lovely turquoise glass necklace (top of the post and below). The splash of color is great for someone like me, whose style tends to rely heavily on neutral colors--black, white and grey. I'm also a big fan of necklaces with multiple strands. And the glass beads catch the light, giving off a very pretty sparkle. This is a versatile piece that I'll be able to wear with a top and skirt to work, or with jeans for a casual dinner out on the weekend. While I don't have arthritis or any other condition that limits my movement, my eyes aren't what they once were. As a result, I really appreciate the necklace's attractive hook closer. It's much easier to see and manipulate than, say, a tiny claw closure.
