The New Black and White Dress

Perhaps, this has happened to you: You're out and about--shopping, running errands, spending the day in a city--when you notice a garment or accessory on a man or woman and think: "Well, there's something different." Then, maybe a few blocks later or a couple of hours later, you'll see someone else modeling the same look. After it happens a third time, you realize: "Wow! It's a new trend!" Does that happen to you? It happens to me a lot when I'm in New York City. Spotting new trends on the street is fun--kind of like a scavenger hunt.  However, it also happens off the street. I'll have the same sort of "fashion ah-ha" moment while watching television and/or reading the newspaper.

Case in point: The new black and white dress. Recently, I saw a photo of Sarah Jessica Parker, 49, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala 2014 in the New York Times (above). She was wearing a striking Oscar de la Renta black and white gown. The gown's skirt was mostly white with intersecting thin black lines. The following evening, I watched an interview with Katie Couric, 57, on The Daly Show with Jon Stewart (below). She was wearing a 'fit and flare' dress--mostly white with thin black stripes. Seeing two stylish women in similar dresses, I realized I was seeing a new spring trend. Last night I was in the city and saw a woman with a pair of slacks with a similar fabric. (Sorry, I was dashing and didn't have time to take a photo.)

Stretch Dresses: Stylish and Oh So Comfortable

I won't beat around the bush: I love this season's dresses with stretch. These days, I'm practically living in my new Jones New York stretch dress (above). It's so comfortable and versatile!  I wore the dress to a Mother's Day brunch with my family. I also wore it for the 60th birthday party I gave my husband on Derby Day. The dress was super comfortable for entertaining 40 of your husband's favorite people. In fact, short of a formal occasion, I think a stretch dress is perfect for day or night.

Hair and Skin ProductS For Moms of All Ages

With Mother’s Day around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about my two sons. (My sons would tell you I never stop thinking about them!) Both of my boys are twenty-something, done with school and largely independent. They don’t need dear old mom the way they once did. Consequently, I've had a little more time to pursue a few personal interests. One of my interests is looking for ways to live healthier and reduce my carbon footprint. Next to showering my sons with love and support, I can’t think of anything more important than taking care of myself and our planet for them. As a result, I have encouraged companies with natural products, especially ones made in responsible ways, to contact me. I'm interested in finding good products and sharing them with Flattering50 readers. Recently, Hannah, founder of Sienna Naturals, sent me samples of her Baobab Oil Moisturizing Collection. The collection is specially-designed for women of all ages who are looking for natural solutions to combat dry skin and hair. Here's my review.
