Color Quest: Stepping back from Neutrals

In recent years, the overarching fashion trend has been to ignore safe styling and look for opportunities to add a bit of edge. Women—yes, even women over 50—have been encouraged to “mix things up”—different textures, different prints, different attitudes. This summer, we’re being challenged to shake up the way we use color.

COLOR-CONSCIOUS STYLING
The notion of using colors in new ways appeals to me. I love “refreshing” what’s already in my closet as opposed to adding a lot of new stuff. (This year, when friends asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I said, “Come to my house and take something, anything—that’s what I want.”)

So…I’ve decided to see how many color-conscious outfits I can style this summer. I know I can’t shelve the neutrals—especially the accessories—completely.  But I'm going to try to keep my go-to neutrals--black, white, beige or grey--from taking over the outfit. That’s my color quest for summer 2015.

To kick off this color quest, I wore  a baby blue top with a lime tulip skirt yesterday. I'm not a big fan of matching shoes and handbag (more my mom's style), so I paired my orange handbag with blue shoes.

Happy 4th of July!
