Last month was the hottest July on record for New York. And August hasn’t exactly cooled down. Blistering heat doesn’t put me in the mood for fall shopping. However, everywhere I go, I’m seeing “Fall Fashion Preview” issues of magazines. And I must admit the previews are having their intended effect: I’m starting to think about my fall 2012 wardrobe. Personally, I don't like to shop in stores or online without a plan. If I don't have a particular garment or accessory in mind, I end up spending too much time and too much money. What's new for fall 2012? So far, I’m seeing some fun accessories—colorful handbags, shoes and skinny belts. Colored jeans are back for fall, too. This month’s style issue of Vanity Fair features lots of big felt hats. And In Style magazine reports that vests and peplum tops are in vogue. Will you be shopping for a felt hat or a peplum top or something else? I’d really love to know.

What piece or pieces are at the top of your fall 2012 shopping list? Why are you thinking about adding the piece(s) to your wardrobe?
