New Day/New Outfit: "Burr" Protection

Sometimes, I try to visualize my favorite over 50 bloggers posting away. Are they sitting at desks, lounging on their patio, soaking up the sunshine by a waterfall? Whenever possible, I write by a window. When organizing my thoughts, I'll gaze out the window for inspiration. Today, I'm sitting at the desk in my bedroom. However, after Friday night's blizzard, the usual view is somewhat obscured (above). Ha! As you can see, the heavy snow has weighed down the branches on the evergreen in our front yard. The tree is seriously listing to one side. The branches you see are laying across the front porch's roof.

Earlier today, my husband and I explored on foot the winter wonderland around us. Our area was fortunate; we only got about 9 inches of snow, a little less in some places. (In Connecticut, where the rest of my family lives, there's three feet of the white stuff!) Click "read more" for photos from our walk and how I dressed for the "burr" factor...

BABY, IT'S COLD OUT THERE
In keeping with my New Day/New Outfit challenge, I rooted through my closet, pulling together a "new" wintry ensemble. The day required a bit of bundling. In the back of the closet, I found a boiled wool coat from the '90s. Back then, I'd used it for cool fall days, before a heavy wool coat was needed. I've never thought of it as a layer under my long, down parka. I threw a bright blue turtleneck underneath for extra warm. From there, it was easy: jeans, gloves and...snow-trudging Timberland boots? Hmmm. Don't think you'll see those on the runway anytime soon.

My husband and I headed down to the bay...

A cold wind kicked up and I was glad to be well bundled. My husband, Mr. Flattering50, snapped this photo of me.

And I snapped this photo of him at one of the boat yards we poked around in.

Clearly, not a day for boating. Or baseball...

Or biking...

On the other hand, it was a great day for building snowmen. Isn't this little fellow adorable?
