Shop Presidents' Weekend Sales for Fall 2013 Trends
The Fall 2013 Fashion Week in New York has come to a close. I was encouraged by the whole affair for one big reason: Many of the designs previewed were perfect for women over 50. Is the fashion industry becoming sympathetic to our needs? Hmm. Yes, yes--there were plenty of very short skirts and even some peek-a-boo tops (heaven!) on the Big Apple's runways. But there were also skirts and dresses with longer hems as well as jackets, tops and bottoms with simple, classic lines and a bit of edge. Be still my heart!
I was also thrilled to see that many of the 2012 fall trends--winter white, fur trim, colored jeans, black and white, shades of purple and burgundy, and more--were very present in the fall 2013 collections. Happy Days! Those garments I bought in September 2012 will still be 'in vogue' next year. If you're tempted to shop some of the huge Presidents' Weekend sales, you might find a 2012 bargain or two that will add to your fall 2013 style. Click 'read more' below for a few examples.
WINTER WHITES
As I reported earlier, the BCBGMAXARIA show was one of my favorties. I loved all the long, flowing tunics over leather leg warmers, plus the layering of furry sweaters and jackets (see below). Many of the garments also featured white. The winter white trend this season was such a great change from all the usual reliance on black. The LWD was the new LBD. It appears that we'll be seeing a lot of white again in fall 2013.
This Anne Klein Faux Fur Neck Flyaway (Metallic, Size L) (was $179, now $89 plus 25% off at checkout) is both creamy and furry--two trends for fall 2013. This garment is available in Sizes Small, Medium and Large
White parkas and wool coats have been very popular in NYC this year and last. Here's a white Wool Blend Palais Royal Coat (was $348, now $149.99 plus extra 40% off at checkout) from Ann Taylor. It's available in Sizes Small-XXLarge.
FLURRY OF FUR
Fur coats, fur vests and fur trim are everywhere--on the runway and in the stores. This gorgeous red fur coat is from Carmen Marc Valvo.
For something similar, take a peek at this Jones New York Faux Fur Jacket (Purple, Size L) (was $199, now $99, plus 30% off at checkout) in Sizes Small-XLarge. (It's hard to tell from the photo, but the fur is actually deep purple.)
HOT PINK WON'T COOL
Traditionally, a spring and summer hue, hot pink made an appearance in many of the fall collections. The Mara Hoffman ensemble (below) features many of the trendy fall 2013 colors: white, black, hot pink and gold.
I like the combination of pink and brown in this Jones New York Floral Pleated Skirt (Pink, Size 12) (was $119, now $99 plus extra 30% off at checkout)
COATS WITH ATTITUDE
I was happy to see that designers are still loving coats with patterns and texture. There were several at the Concept Korea show (see below). I saw some great ones on the New York streets this winter and look forward to seeing more next fall.
Here are two examples of pattern coats on sale right now...
Jones New York Button Front Coat (Black, Size L) (was $229, now $159 plus extra 30% off at checkout) in Sizes XSmall, Medium and Large.
Animal Jacquard Coat (was$278, now $129) from Ann Taylor. Available in Sizes XSmall, Small and Large.
ANKLE-LENGTH
Prints and flood-level hems were the slack trends that caught my eye. The shorter slacks were often shown with short boots. The photo below is from the Ruffian show.
And here's a Classic Hatch Print Ankle Pants (was $88, now $69.99 plus extra 40% off at checkout) from Ann Taylor.
MAD ABOUT PLAIDS
Last fall, I saw a sixty-something woman in a plaid kilt and it warmed my heart. I realized it had been a long time since I wore plaid. Well, that might be changing next fall. Plaid fashions, like the Marc Jacobs jacket below, were all over the runway this week.
At Jones New York, I found this Jones New York Pea Coat (Red, Size 10)
Then, I stopped by Brooks Brothers, which just seemed like the perfect place to shop for plaid. Sure enough, I found a few garments, like Shetland Wool Three-Button Jacket (was $398, now $238) in Sizes 0-14
