Style Over 50: Great Graphics!

My friend Loretta just returned from Italy. I was dying to hear about her trip, so we met for a girl’s lunch out this week. Loretta arrived at the restaurant wearing a fabulous graphic sweater dress over slacks (above). Doesn’t she look stunning? Now before you scour this post, looking for the dress’s brand, I’ll tell you: the sweater dress was bought at a Florence boutique. I know: Ugh! Still, I wanted to share it with you because it shows how flattering graphic prints are on women over 50.

BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL
The graphic print trend encompasses lots of designs, from geometric blasts of color and angles to bold, yet dreamy mixes of organic patterns. Loretta’s graphic print sweater dress combines defining black and white panels as well as peacock feather-inspired shapes and a graphic crochet pattern. I love the peacock feathers along the cowl neckline.

But what really makes this dress "a knock out" is the continuation of the patterns on the back. Is that cool or what?

GETTING GRAPHICS
Since turning 50, I've lost all interest in sweet floral or any other demure design. If I'm wearing a garment with a pattern, I want it to be well-defined. Hence, I love polka dots and broad stripes. The great thing about graphic prints is that you can choose just how graphic you want to go, from the mild to the outrageous. Want some examples? Here are a few dresses and separates that are working the graphics...
