One of my all-time favorite pairs of slacks came from Ann Taylor. The pants were black wool with no waistband or pockets, and the zipper was in back. I had them in the ‘90s and I wore them to shreds. The reason I loved them was the front was flat--no thick waistband, pockets or zipper adding bulk to my stomach. Since turning 50, I've adopted two strategies to keep from looking like I'm three-months pregnant in pants. First, I do hateful ab exercises regularly to keep the flab at bay. And second, whenever possible, I buy pants that aren't too bulky in front. Yesterday, I discovered that Jones New York has a whole line of flat-front slacks. And they’re on sale right now. Right now, Talbots has some pant styles with side zippers and no front pockets. In the past decade, I have bought four pairs of side-zipper slacks from Talbots and have been very happy with them.
